In Greek mythology, the God of wine is Dionysus. Dionysus originally started out as a mortal. He was determined to do something great, to become someone important, but the rest of his village just laughed at him. He created wine, and the gods (The Olympians) loved his creation so much, they brought him to Olympus and decided to make him a god. But there could only be twelve Olympian gods, and the gods began to fight among themselves. Hestia, goddess of hearth and home, gave up her throne on Olympus for Dionysus, to prevent war from breaking out between the gods. The Roman name of Dionysus is Bacchus.
