Athena was born a goddess and knew no other kind of existence. Athena as a goddess could also shape shift into whatever form or body she desired.

Orion was said to be a male hunter who was companion of the goddess (not lover) however he was killed either by Artemis tricked, or by Apollo because Artemis desired to be with Orion and was considering breaking her vow of virginity. Actaion who was also a male hunter, though by accident he glimpsed the goddess bathing and she turned his hounds against him.
Skaði is perhaps most like Artemis as a goddess of bowhunting, skiing, winter, and mountain.
