General Dwight David Eisenhower.
Eisenhower was a career military officer for 36 years - he held no elected office before becoming President
There are four elected president who did not win the popular vote. The fourth and the most recent was President George W. Bush in the election in 2000.
Yes, quite a few times...the most recent Republican-to-Republican change was in 1998 when George H.W. Bush was elected after Ronald Reagan retired. You have to go back to the 1800s to find a Democrat-to-Democrat change that didn't happen because the first president died in office, and the most recent one we find is Franklin Pierce losing his midterm primary and being replaced by James Buchanan.
Yes. The Constitution has no limitation to serving as Vice President... only President. That limitation is two elected terms or 10 years. As a recent example, Vice President Bush served for two full terms under Reagan before running and winning the Presidency. He also ran for a second term against Clinton but lost. VP Gore served two terms and ran after that for Presidency and won (but still lost)... but thats another story. The real question you should be asking, however, is whether a President who has served two terms or 10 years can then serve as Vice President. The Answer to that is NO although that has never been tested. The 12th Amendment states "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."
the president is not elected by the house of representatives. He is elected by the continental congress.
Most recent (and current) US President is Barrack Obama.
Barack Obama is criticized in many circles as being unqualified for the position of president because of, among other things, his lack of experience in governance. But there is one other president in recent times who had even less experience when elected to that office. Actually, he had none. Dwight D. Eisenhower had never sought or held a poltical office of any sort prior to his 1952 Republican Presidential nomination. He was 61 when he became a candidate for the presidency.
He was the highest profile terrorist that attained the presidency of a country in recent years
John Tyler was the first vice president to become President without being elected as President. He took over for William Henry Harrison, who was the first President to die in office in 1840.
Felipe Calderon has held political office since 1988, more than 22 years ago, when he was elected to Mexico City's municipal assembly. His most recent position is the president of Mexico, which he entered on 2006 December 1. He has been president for just over 4 years, and his term as president ends on 2012 November 30.
Gerald Ford smoked a pipe frequently. I think the more recent Republicans all quit smoking before they were elected. I am pretty sure that Reagan appeared in a magazine cigarette ad .
This is his second term as president, so his most recent job was President of the United States (he was first elected in 2008). But immediately prior to that, he was a U.S. Senator from the state of Illinois.
