The Islamic scripture (the Noble Quran) was revealed by Allah (God) and conveyed to prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) via Archangel Gabriel over a span of 23 years. When prophet Mohamed received the revelation, he would instruct his faithful scribes from his companions (such as Zaid Ibn Thabit, Abu Bakr, Omar, Ali etc) to write the scripture down and put the right verses in the right chapters.
