Nicolaus Copernicus, in 1543 , proposed his version of the heliocentric (Sun-centered) organization of the universe.
(from De revolutionibus orbium coelestium)
Finally we shall place the Sun himself at the center of the Universe.
All this is suggested by the systematic procession of events and
the harmony of the whole Universe, if only we face the facts,
as they say, 'with both eyes open'.
Nicholas Copernicus
Nicolas Copernicus was the first to suggest the idea. Others picked up on it and went from there. It is now an established scientific fact and is said by almost everybody with any semblance of education.
You are referring to Nicolai Copernicus, but Copernicus wasn't the first - not by 2000 years! - to propose a heliocentric vision of the solar system. That honor goes to the Greek astronomer and mathematician Aristarchus of Samos.
Copernicus proposed a heliocentric universe in 1543.
Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus first proposed a sun-centered solar system in the early 1500's.
It was Nicolas Koppernigk, also known by the Latin form of his name, Copernicus.

Nicolaus Copernicus.
Aristarchus of Samos, about 400 BC.
Kopernik. He is also known as Copernicus.
He was a Polish mathematician who disagreed with Ptolemy's view that the earth is the center of the universe. The heliocentric theory is the theory that the sun is the center of the universe, not the earth.
Nicolas Copernicus was an astronomer who first gave the theory (which is now proven) that all planets revolve around the sun, which is called the heliocentric model of the solar system. The belief at the time was that the Earth was the center of the solar system/universe. We now know that Copernicus was right, but everybody in his time said he was a nutcase, and his heliocentric model didn't become popular until after Galileo and Kepler.
The discovery that all the planets go around the sun is attributed to Nicolaus Copernicus, a Polish astronomer in the 16th century. He proposed the heliocentric model, which placed the sun at the center of the solar system, with the planets orbiting around it. This model challenged the earlier geocentric model, which believed that Earth was the center of the universe.
—He was a polish astronomer, he was best know for his theory that the sun was near the center of the universe and that earth and other planets rotated around the center of the universe which makes sense to me because the planets rotate around the sun and he thinks that the sun is near the center of the universe. Copernicus did not believe that the earth and other planets were influenced by or revolved due to the sun, that kinda contradicts what I said, but in a way we are both coming together to say the same thing.
Copernicus put forth a theory that the sun was the center of the Universe and that the Earth revolved around the sun. He also said that the Earth spins on an axis completing one rotation daily.
It wasn't a polish astronomer that suggested the earth was not the center of the universe.

He was the first astronomer to formulate a scientifically-based heliocentric cosmology that displaced the Earth from the center of the universe.

Nicholas Copernicus suggested in 1543 that the model of the Universe could be simplified by considering the Sun at the centre rather than the Earth. In the early 1600s Galileo had a dispute with the Church about it because scripture said that the Earth is at the centre. At that time it was impossible to decide which idea was true, until in the late 17th century Newton's theories of gravity and motion explained why the planets follow Kepler's 1609 model with elliptical orbits and the Sun at the centre.
