Herod was King of Judea - the southern kingdom with Jerusalem as capital (jesus completed most of his ministry in Israel - in the district of Galilee, the Northern kingdom) These facts can be found in Luke's Gospel, written by Luke, a Doctor Who was commissioned to investigate the whole story of Jesus from the beginning in a systematic and complete way. Herod the Great was the ruler in Judea when Christ was born and died soon after, in 4BC.

∙ 13y agoCaesar Augustus was the Roman Emperor at the time Jesus was born. King Herod the Great was the ruler of the Jews at the time but only with the permission of the Roman Emperor. He was basically a puppet of the Romans.
