Frederick Cook is generally accepted as the second man to reach the North Pole, after Robert Peary.
However, controversy remains even today as to whether either man actually reached the North pole.
No explorer team documents in a sequence which members first stepped foot anywhere.
There are no notes in Amundsen's journals that indicate which members of his team were 'first, second, third, fourth or fifth'.
