Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly
Perhaps you are thinking of segregation. It would be difficult to make a connection to slavery, since slavery occurred up to the 1860s, at which time, President Lincoln ended it and ordered that the slaves be emancipated. Rock and roll came along in the 1950s, when there was still segregation. That is why rock music was so controversial in its early years-- it helped to change society by bringing together black teens and white teens; plus some of the popular rock groups were integrated, and others were all black... yet white teens loved their music. The "mixing of the races" was especially controversial in the deep south, and in many cities, politicians tried to have rock banned.
