Neptune was the roman god of the sea
Roman religion beliefs were as true and as untrue as those of any other religion in the world today. All religion is based on faith, not on verifiable truth. Because faith is unverifiable, if there is a supreme god then that supreme god is equally likely to be Jupiter as the Christian God or the Hindu Brahma.
The supreme god in Roman mythology is Jupiter, preceded by Saturn.
GOD

First of all I am guessing when you say the "Roman religion", you are referring to ancient Rome and not in regards to modern Roman religion which is obviously Catholicism. The Roman religion is one based within the worship of many Gods, each with their own areas of dominance. The supreme deity of these Gods is Jupiter. There are several cultures that influenced the development of the Roman religion. To discuss these cultures we will have to start at the beginning, Zoroastrianism. Now most people will say "Wait, what? That's a monotheistic (one God) religion and Roman religion is Polytheistic (many Gods)". Well yes that's true, although the supreme God of Zoroastrianism is the God of light, Ahura Mazda. This God, passed from word of mouth and various religious texts from Persia, through India and into Greece, where Ahura Mazda was adapted to the supreme God of Greece, Zeus. For now I will generally state that the vast majority of religious Roman influences come from Greece. But like I said we have to start at the beginning. So, we have covered how Zoroastrianism came to Greece, but Greece was also influenced greatly by Egypt. Many Egyptian gods such as Isis have temples in Greek cities, the Temple of Isis at Pompeii for example. Also, the Egyptian God Ptah is closely related to the Greek God Artemis. To recap, Greek religion is greatly influenced by Persian and Egyptian religion, and Roman religion is greatly influenced by this Greek religion. Just a brief summary from a year 12 Ancient History student.
