Richard (Dick) Cheney (born January 30, 1941 in Lincoln, Nebraska) succeeded Al Gore as the forty-sixth Vice-President of the United States, serving between January 20, 2001 and January 20, 2009, including the whole of the year 2008. He was succeeded by Joseph (Joe) Biden.

Biden was born on November 20, 1942, and inaugurated as Vice President on January 20, 2009. He and President Barack Obama were the nominees of the Democratic Party in the 2008 presidential election. Biden was formerly a US Senator from Delaware.
