Lincoln was with his wife, Henry Rathbone, a young army officer, and his fiancé, Clara Harris, daughter of New York Senator Ira Harris. There was also a Bodyguard, John F. Parker who accompanied him to the play, and was supposed to have been keeping watch outside of the President's State Box theatre door. Parker was not at the door, he was in the downstairs saloon, having a drink. The door to the President's State Box was also unlocked, when Booth entered into the room.
