Samuel Ealy Johnson, Jr. and Rebekah Baines were Johnson's parents.
Samuel Johnson was a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives representing the 89th District.
He was also a struggling farmer and cattle speculator who lived in the Texas Hill Country.
After retiring from the legislature in 1908, he began to buy and sell real estate in addition to farming.
He did well in selling real estate. He re-invested the profits from real estate into buying local businesses. He bought several ranches, a small movie theater, as well as the only hotel in Johnson City, which had been named after a cousin of his.

This gained Johnson huge skill which he later obtained passage of a number of key Eisenhower measures. Later in the 1960 campaign, Kennedy was Johnson running mate, Kennedy ended up winning and Johnson made the Vice President. After Kennedy died Johnson was sworn in as president. In 1964 Johnson won presidency with over 15,000,000 votes. The republican party was a ruling group of the time in the nation and though Kennedy wanted to stop civil rights, he never got time to.
