the missionaries came from 1780-90, but fur trappers got there ever since Americans knew of it's extistense, so in the early 1600's, there were people that came from New England to make a fortune off the giant beaver, deer, fox, coyote, brown bear, black bear, and especially grizzly bears. The first people with farming intentions were there in the early 1800's.
