Throughout the 2,000 year history of the Church there have been a number of sects or other religions which broke away from the Christian Church who were considered dangerous radicals, probably one of the most radical were the Albigenses who were a neo-Manichaen heresy who believed that the entire visible world (including the body of humans) was a product of an evil god who had produced it. The only way to be perfect and to reunite with the good God was to commit suicide. They flourished in Southern France in the twelve and thirteenth centuries, until they were finally suppressed. However, many of their beliefs reappeared in the protestant revolt.
