The were quite a number of jobs in the South Carolina colony. Some of them included working in farms, working in factories and plantations among others.
The first colony was part of Sir Walter Raleigh's efforts to colonize Virginia beginning in 1584. But the colony on Roanoke Island disappeared during a war with Spain. By 1850, some of the settlers in Virginia moved to North Carolina. In 1663 and 1665, Charles II granted proprietary charters in the Carolinas, under a plan by Anthony Ashley Cooper. There were transient colonies in South Carolina and Florida during the late 1500s by both the Spanish and by French Huguenots.
The way of life on the South Carolina colony was that men work on farms, women took care of home and some rich kids went to school most of the other kids helped their parents in the daily chores.
There were 13 original colonies in the U.S. Some included Rhode Island, Virginia, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.

In 1710, due to disputes over governance, the Carolina colony began to split into North Carolina and South Carolina. The latter became a crown colony in 1729. It had nothing to do with the Civil war as both Carolinas exhisted before the War and both sides joined the South
