There were three axis powers during World War Two- Germany, Italy, and Japan. Italy did not play a major role in the course of the war. In 1943, when Italy was just starting to be invaded, the Italian government joined the Allies. However, by then, German troops had already rushed in to stop the Allied advance.
There were also some Balkan nations and others that joined the Axis cause as the war progressed. After the Winter War with the Soviets and after Operation Barbarossa, when Hitler invaded Russia, Finland became an axis. Before then, Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria became axis nations too.
