The old white banknotes have the date printed on them. For other types of banknote, you would need to take note of the legend, "Bank of England", or "H M Treasury", etc. The Chief Cashiers name will pin the banknote down to the period of that particular Chief Cashiers tenure. And last but not least, the serial number. A combination of all of these things should narrow the date down to a few years at worst.
John Page was the Chief cashier of the Bank of England from 1970 to 1980.
It wouldn't be easy. You would have to go to a main bank branch which had an affiliation with the US bank. The admin fee is likely to be quite high as well.

The collector value of any Bank of England One Pound would depend on its condition, the year of issue, the Chief Cashiers signature, the serial number and any peculiarities of the note. You could try selling them on eBay or to a local reputable coin dealer. Alternatively, the Bank of England advises - All Bank of England notes from which legal tender status has been withdrawn remain payable at face value forever at the Bank of England in London. Any such notes may be presented for payment either in person during business hours, or sent to us by post.
