The indigenous people of Australia, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, were the first to inhabit Australia. Whilst it is unknown when they first arrived, estimates vary between 6,000 and 40,000 years.
The british used it for a prison they sent british convicts over. Basicly it was a giant british island prison.
It is a misconception that the first Europeans in Australia were only convicts. The convicts were accompanied by several hundred officers and marines, and numerous free settlers as well. The people of the First Fleet were entirely from Great Britain.
There is also some evidence that the first unofficialEuropean settlers were survivors of Dutch shipwrecks off the western coast of the continent, a region renowned for shipwrecks in the 1600s.

There is no straightforward answer to this question.Australia Day commemorates the landing of the First Fleet and the arrival of the first European settlers in Australia. The first celebrations of the landing of the First Fleet were held in 1791, while Captain Arthur Phillip was still the Governor of New South Wales. By 1804, 26 January was referred to as First Landing Day or Foundation Day.On the 150th anniversary of the landing of the First Fleet, the Australian Natives' Association (referring to Australian-born people of European heritage, not the indigenous people) advocated celebrating 26 January as Australia Day every year. By 1935, the term "Australia Day" was used among all of Australia's states and territories to mark the anniversary of this first white settlement.

According to Pauline Hanson, it "sold the country out". It has made Australia a multicultural country. This has made people more respective of other's beliefs and culture.
The white Australia policy originally developed during the 1800s because many Australians came from English stock and as a result felt that they were superior. They didn't even officially recognise the existence of aboriginals. They felt that by allowing other races into the country that their position would be swamped by ensuring cheap labour market and that they would become an unemployed minority in their own country. Some Australians wanted a "White Australia" policy and they believed Federation would enable the development and maintenance of a "White Australia", by toughening immigration laws. There was lingering resentment over the Chinese who had come during the gold rush, made their fortune (as they were far more industrious than Australians) and then returned to their own country, taking their fortune with them. Some stayed and set up businesses in towns, but they were always looked down upon. It was hoped by some (not all) that a White Australia policy would ensure employment for Australians. Some colonies were opposed to this policy as they used foreign labour, which was often much cheaper than local labour. An example of this is Queensland, which employed Kanakas (people from the Cook Islands). Under the new constitution, not only the Kanakas, but also the much-feared Chinese, who came to Australia during the gold rush, would not be allowed into Australia. Thus Federation would eliminate unwanted foreigners, providing more employment for Australians.
The first white people to "immigrate" to Australia could be said to be the convicts and officers of the First Fleet, together with a handful of free settlers.
of course it was black [Aborigines]

Their would not be and white people in Australia and their would be many more aboriginals Actually, it is more conceivable that the French would have carried through with their claims to Australian territory, and most people would now be speaking French here.
White people
The first settlers arrived on 26 January 1788 at Sydney Cove. This is not only the date of the first settlement in Sydney, but also of the first white settlement anywhere in Australia. This is why Australians celebrate Australia Day on January 26.
