first he was going to stand up to Achilles, then he got scared and started running aroung the city (Troy). Athena tricked him, so he went to face Achilles. he then begged Achilles to let his people have his (Hector's) body if he died. Achilles refused. so then they fought, but it was pretty short, Achilles pretty much just killed him. Then all the Acheans came to stab Hector...
Because Achilles was a mortal, he had no existing Roman counterpart. As such, they would have simply called him Achilles. It's important to note that most Romans knew Greek as it was the language of trade and commerce.
First of all, it was the will of the gods. Apollo pleaded for Hector seeing that he was respectful of the gods, and Zeus agreed with him. Zeus then told Thetis, Achilles's mother, to tell Achilles to give the body back. But, Achilles was also moved by Priam's speech and actions when he sneaks into the Greek camp in the middle of the night.
