It is often supposed that the first people mentioned in The Bible are Adam and Eve, but this supposes that the second creation story in Genesis 2:4b-25 is somehow a retelling of the first creation story in Genesis 1:1-2:4a.
Leon R. Kass (The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis) says that once we recognise the independence of the two creation stories, we are compelled to adopt a critical principle of reading if we mean to understand each story on its own terms and must scrupulously avoid reading into the second story any facts or notions taken from the first, and vice versa. The first people mentioned in the Bible are not given names, but they appear in Genesis 1:27, when God created men and women:
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
