Well it seems to be quite certain that modern man started in Africa. When you look at the evidence, the stone age started in Africa over two million years ago, and as recently as 60,000 years ago there were more people in Africa than anywhere else in the world. Then, as the climate changed, so did the people, and they discovered new ways of doing things and started to venture out. Around 6,000 years ago communities and cities started, and 3,00 years ago we started to organize into kingdoms and government, and look where we are now.
