This is the true history of how it all began in Trench town in 1962, Kingston Jamaica.
Three youths living in the area- Junior Braithwaite, Garth Dennis, and Ricardo Scott began singing around the neighborhood and at local concerts. They decided to give themselves a name. several names were tried and they finally settled on-WAILING- "for a wailing has come out of zion", Book of Jeremiah the prophet. The mothers would weep and wail the deaths of their children. The name was chosen as it related to what was reality as seen.
When Bob Marley arrived later in the area, he approached them and decided to form his group which Junior Braithwaite and Ricardo Scott who were original members. Shortly after this, Junior left the island for the USA, and Ricardo's parents told him to leave singing and focus on his High school studies. The torch was then passed unto Bob who then teamed up with Peter Tosh and then Bunny Livingston who kept the same original name and went on to later become Bob Marley and the wailers.
For years the media has played it that Bunny wailer was the only original wailer alive. What the media failed to disclose were the facts I just told you . They were told this truth over the years but still refused to publish it. Then shortly before he was murdered in 1999, Junior Braithwaite was featured in an article as the original wailing wailer. The article was written by staff writer- Milton Wray- by the Jamaican Star newspaper- "A Wailer Cries"- What is Jah will is my will". Someone did not want this truth to come out so they killed Junior.
Ricardo ( Ras cardo) Scott has repeatedly told this truth to the world media and has published it in his seminal book - A reggae education- Scott's official history of reggae- Reggae's unsung heroes.
Bob Marley was killed in 1981. Peter Tosh was killed in 1987, and from that trio we now have Bunny as "Bunny wailer" as the only one living from that group.
Be not confused because one set of youths passed the name unto the other. The youths who started it all as the true reggae original pioneers in 1962 trench town were Junior Braithwaite, Garth Dennis, and Ricardo( Ras cardo) Scott. Ras cardo today has the true and detailed history of who were present at the time and place in trench town when it all began. He came from trench town. Ras cardo was the first to reveal this history about the man- Leghorn Coghile- to the world, and he has written about Leghorn in many of his books and articles. Leghorn and Ras Cardo used to live on the same street in trench Town, and were there to welcome Bob Marley when he arrived in the area. From his detailed history of reggae, Ras Cardo has repeatedly mentioned the name and works of Leghorn who helped Bob Marley to begin his retail record business. Leghorn was also the one who wrote the song- THEM BELLY FULL- which Bob Marley and the wailers sang. Leghorn was the one who Ras cardo told the world was the first- Foot soldier- to Bob Marley, graphic artist, and PR point man. In his many books Ras Cardo has mentioned the name and works of Leghorn- The true Trench Town story- Reggae Jamaica- the wailing of the people, A reggae education- Scott's official history of Reggae and the wailers,- Love in black and white,- on Newsvine, wordpress, and so many others. NO ONE ELSE HAS. RAS CARDO WILL SAY THIS: Before there was a -Neville Garrick- or any other following Bob Marley around- there were Leghorn Coghile, Ras cardo and his siblings, Junior Braithwaite, and many more that Ras cardo will not reveal at this time. Ras cardo will share this history with those who are willing to know the truth, and he stands firmly by his detailed documentations and life experiences of being there with all of them. i wanted to know this too! please help in the next 30 mins! ANSWER: Bob Marley became involved in the music industry at sixteen years of age. At that time Ska(a precursor to Rock Steady and reggae) was the popular sound in Jamaica and Bob recorded his first singles 'Judge Not' and 'one cup of coffee' in 1961-62 utilizing the Ska style. Over the course of the next several years ska would slow in tempo to take on a new sound called Rock Steady which the Wailers(formed in 1963 officially) would also transition in to. Reggae came to be in roughly 1967-68 and was officially termed so by Toots Hibbert in his classic song "Do the reggay". Although 'Toots' coined the term the sound was already developing and the Wailers(Bob, Peter and Bunny as well as 'Family Man and Carlton Barrett) were integral in the origins of what came to be recognized as 'roots Reggae". So, to answer the question you could say that the Wailers went through all of the incarnations(beginning in the sixties anyway) of Jamaican music and played a crucial role in the overall sound and or style of reggae. Bob didn't just fall in to Reggae music he was an important part of its development along with a number of very talented Jamaican musicians and producers.
There is no such thing as a "Wailing Wall". That term was mistake made by non-Jews when they first saw the Jewish style of prayer. It is called the Western Wall or the Kotel. You do not hear wailing at the Western Wall. You hear Hebrew prayers.
Reggae is a music genre first developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s.
