Did Canada break away from another country to become independent?

Not so much break as don't let the door hit you on the way out. Britain had been making more than a few suggestions that Canada should be taking care of things themselves. So when Canada Confederated they were quick to rubber stamp it. As to Independent, well lots of people would suggest Canada is far from independent.

Why were black smiths needed in the Revolutionary War?

They were needed to forge iron weapons, such as gun barells, and spears for back-up. i believe it was so that they could make the guns and necessary materials needed for the soldiers. Also, they made the horse shoes for the horses that were used during the war. Hope that works! Black smiths were needed to create metal weapons. "Back" smiths were needed to break the backs of the red coats.

Who where the loyalists in the revolutionary war?

The loyalists were the people who wanted to remain loyal to the British King and to Britain itself. Although many school books do not mention it (it's much nicer to paint the colonist rebels as the 'true' representatives of colonist feelings) the truth is that the rebels were initially only a minority of the colonists and most of them had no desire to make a break with Britain.
