The Japanese people did not come to Australia in 1800. As a matter of fact, until the year 1866, it was a capital offence for Japanese people to even leave their country.

When Japanese did start to migrate, around the 1880s and 1890s, many of tyem were employed as crew for Australian pearlers in the northwest. Large numbers also went to Queensland, where they worked in the sugar cane industry.
