Triple alliance & the triple Entente
In WW I the two major alliances were the Allies (or Allied Forces) and the Central Powers.
Some of Europe. Great Britain, France, U.S.A., and the Soviet Union were the main Allied Powers during WWII. Poland, Germany, Italy, And Japan were the main enemies of the Allied Powers.
If you are speaking of the five major Allies, those would be Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States. If you include the Central Powers, then Germany and Austria-Hungary would be the most significant. Which three allies should be included along with the two central powers is debatable. It would depend on your criteria. France, Russia, and Italy each had a front in their territory. But England, France, and Russiawere the most powerful allies that fought throught the entire war.
Russia, France, Great Britain, Italy, and Serbia

People call World War 1 the Great War because the war lasted from 1914 to 1919. But, the fighting stopped in 1918. The war was fought by the Allies and the Central Powers. The Allies fought on one side and the Central Powers fought on the other side. The Central Powers were Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria ect... The Allies were Serbi, Russia, France, Belguim ect...
Allied powers in both wars. The term Central Powers was used in World War I for Germany, Austro-Hungary and Turkey. In part this alliance buttressed ( Huns) as a slang term for Germans, a Hungarians were allies!
Both powers were a combined alliance of nations, the allies were; Great Britain, France, Spain, Belgium,(eventually the US would join the war but in 1918). The Central Power were; Germany(Remember, just Germany not "Nazi" Germany because the Nazi's were WW2), Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria( Italy would eventually switch over to the allies.
