A:Acts of the Apostles says 'they' were come together and then saw Jesus taken bodily up into heaven above. This appears to refer to the twelve disciples, but could perhaps include others. We only have Acts of the Apostles to vouch for this and therefore only the anonymous author, who certainly was not present at the time. The epistles attributed to Peter, John, James and Jude do not call on the ascension of Jesus as evidence either of his divinity or of their own true knowledge and apostolic missions, although they could be expected to do so if the authors were indeed witnesses.

An ambiguous verse in the Koran (Surah 17:1) is now read as evidence that Muhammad, accompanied one night by the angel Gabriel, flew on the back of a winged, horse-like creature to Jerusalem to visit the temple that was built by King Solomon and was then carried up to heaven by Gabriel, where Muhammad met God. There is no suggestion that there was any human witness, but it is accepted that belief in this event is based on belief in one of the five pillars of faith.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses think they are disciples?

Yes, we believe we are the only true disciples of Jesus. Our Kingdom Ministry publication of June 2003 states ''Jesus' disciples alone saw him depart, even as only Jehovah's Witnesses recognize his invisible return and presence, which began in 1914.''

Where were the apostles sent to be witnesses?

Just like a court room has witnesses who tells the jury what happened or what they saw, in the same way the Apostles did the same for Jesus Christ, when they witnessed his miracles, his teachings, and his death and resurrection. Also in Christendom, to be "a witness" means to tell others about Jesus Christ and the things that He did and said.
