The media. No one is winning the war in Iraq AnswerTactically, the US and the Coalition Allies are winning as things have improved during the past 18 months. Combat and civilian deaths are lower. Strategically and long term, the outcome of the war remains to be seen. Nobody knows yet as things can change. Coalition victory cannot be declared at this time.

The Iraq War was not a winnable war for any party because there were no "objectives" that either side was trying to meet. Saddam Hussein was trying to stay in power and failed. The United States tried to build a nation with moderate success, but eventually left the Iraqis to finish the project. The Iraqi Militias were trying to forge a new place in the government by military means and failed in that regard (although many now wield political power on account of Iraqi voting styles).

There are numerous wars and conflicts going on in the Middle East and numerous different standards of winning. In the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, I would argue that Israel is winning. In the Syrian Civil War, I would argue that ISIL and the Assad Regime are doing better than the Kurdish militias and the Free Syrian Army, but are not able to win against the other. In the Iraqi Insurgency, I would say that ISIL is winning.

Those who are fighting in Iraq are people belonging to different conflicting political agendas from the west and east besides those who are resisting foreign occupation. Iraq was a peaceful and economically, socially, and technologically peaceful and strong country before the western and American invasion. No reasons behind this fighting except the Iraq invasion by foreigners.
