China won with it's great amount of forces, even with more deaths than the other countries they had a much larger army to fight the battle. They also had more advanced weapons than either of the opposing countries.

Most people say that it was a draw because a peace was declared before the war got out of hand, and because no side actually won or lost any land. But they are wrong, as the war had deeper meaning than most understand. When China invaded India in 1962, it was not an offensive but a defensive action, as India had been becoming increasingly hostile to China, and was attempting to annex Chinese territory. China's army quickly overrun that of India's and took thousand's of Indian troupe's prisoner. While India's army was in a general retreat the PLA (China's army) actually reached the outskirts of New Delhi, India's capital. It was then that Mao, not wanting to embarrass the Indian's by occupying their capital, ordered his army to stop advancing, and pull back into China. This meant the war was a victory for China in 5 ways;

1. It increased China's international prestige, showing it's ability to completely overrun a relatively modern army.

2. It stopped the India from underestimating China, as it had been previously.

3. Ironically the war actually made Sino-Indian relation's stronger. The Chinese army had treated Indian POW's so well that India no longer considered Communist China to be evil, and actually began seeing Mao's regime as humanitarian. And the fact that China didn't make any territorial demands despite being in the position to annex half of India ended Indian fear's of Chinese Expansionism.

4. It ended the conflict on the Sino-Indian border that had claimed thousands of lives.

5. It showed Tibet not to expect help from India if it attempted an uprising.

This was a completely accurate, unbiased answer to the question "who won the Sino-Indian war" by Kyle Neill.

P.S. long live New Zealand.
