Washington was generally known for his traditional views-- he definitely wanted equality for black people, but was known as a moderate who believed racial justice would come gradually, through hard work and patience; W.E.B. DuBois tended to be more outspoken and less willing to wait patiently. He had stronger opinions, wasn't afraid to express them, and would probably be considered an activist. So, depending on what the Langston Hughes poem said, you can decide who was mostly likely to want to take a stand and who was most likely to advocate for being patient.
