If Superman got in between Hulk and the Illuminati heroes the Hulk was after during World War Hulk, then the creators said Superman would lose. Superman is too nice a guy to just walk up and punch Hulk's lights out. It would be his downfall as a huge blow first thing is the only thing that could save him
