Prior to the First World War, the Italians had been supportive of the Austro-Hungarian and German Empires. They delayed participation in the war for a year. When they finally became involved on April 26, 1915, it was on the opposing side, with the Triple Entente of Britain, France, and Russia.
Again with the Second World War, the Italians delayed participation for a year. They became involved on June 10, 1940. This time, they supported Nazi Germany.
