The od light means that the over-drive is off. Pushing the little button on the shifter selector will turn it on (when the dummy light is not on) and off (when the dummy light is lit).

When you see the light, the OD is OFF. See no light and it is ON.
should be a button on the shifter, maybe its a small one, push it in and the OD light should appear next to the gauges.
OD stands for Over Drive and it just means that your car is adjusting its actions to save money and gas.
I have a 2002 F350 and my OD light came on, that was 3 transmissions ago... by default the fords are in OD, you have to turn it off when towing. Never tow without turning the OD off first. My experience was that the trans was burned up, and the light kept flashing, or You might be exceeding the speed for being in OD.
over-drive... take it its an auto On the gear selector handle, there is a button. Pushing that button will turn the Over drive off (light is on) or turn it on (light is off). This allows it to leave 3rd gear, and will put less wear on the engine and transmission at a speed of about 45 or higher.
Usually light is on as a warning it is off. Most have on/off button on 1 of the stalks.
There's a button on the left side of the gearshift, under the T-handle. Push it once. There should be a little green light by the speedometer that indicates if you're in OD mode, or not.
