Why 1KB1024bytes but 1Kilogram in metric system of numbers is equal to 1000gra ms?

Computers don't count in multiples of 10 but in powers of 2 (bit is on or off). Instead of going 1, 10, 100, 1000, it goes 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024. Well, that's not far from 1000, so the IT professionals called it a kilo. A megabyte is then 1024 X 1024 and a gigabyte is another 1024 times that.
