Check the inertia ( fuel shutoff) switch inside the cab. Also, make sure the fuel pump relay is working and not fried. One sure fire way to tell if its the pump or not, have someone listen to the tank when the ignition is turned on; they should hear it..... or...take the fuel line off at the back of the filter and turn your ignition key on. You should get a good squirt of fuel at that point. Believe it or not, some aftermarket (not OEM) parts have been known to be defective....lower cost fuel pumps especially. Hope that is not the case. .
start the truck then while it running pull the fuse for the fuel pump and allow the truck to die then fuel line have no pressure
check fuse for fuel pump or may need a new fuel pressure regulator, its on the fuel rail.
Try replaceing the fuel regulator . It is some place close to the fuel rail. There is also a fuse for the pump.
The 1992 Ford Ranger does not have a fuel pump shutoff switch. You can disable the fuel pump by removing the fuel pump fuse.
