It was actually King Henry VIII and he actually did not create the church of England. The king did however seperate it from the Roman Catholic Church. He did this because he was dissatisfied with his marriage to Catherine of Aragon due to her inability to bear him a son and he was infatuated with Anne Boleyn, a younger woman. Because the Roman Catholic Church and Pope Clement VII refused to give the King an annulment (an end to his marriage), Henry VIII took religious matters into his own hands, separating the Church of England from the Pope's control and annulling his marriage to Catherine.

Henry viii established the church in England so that he would be able to divorce his first wife Catherine of Aragon, and marry another wife who could bear him a son. Henry took this action after the Pope had refused to grant him a divorce. Henry was made supreme Head of the Church by an Act of Parliament in 1534 thus making the divorce legal in his eyes.

Why did the protestant reformation come to England?

Henry VIII did a great job of preventing the Protestant Reformation from having any great affect on England - until he needed a divorce. When the Catholic Church refused to grant Henry VIII a divorce, he decided to make his own version of Christianity, where he made the rules. Henry VIII started the Anglican / Church of England, where Henry VIII was the head of the church (much like the Pope). Henry VIII gave himself permission to divorce and ordered all his subjects to become Protestant.
