Protestants are called protestants because they PROTESTED against the catholic church because Henry viii was catholic but he wanted a divorce but the catholics would not let him, so he started his own church( church of England) and they were called the protestants, also you can not be protestant and catholic.

In other words, some Protestants believe that their doctrine is true but the Catholic Church's same doctrine on said topic is false incorrect in a not totally false way so in one sense, some Protestant churches do believe that they are better than Catholic churches but when it comes to individual Protestants versus individual Catholics, it varies from person to person.

I have heard many protestants say so. In Bolivia, where I live, it is even common among both Catholics and Protestants to simply call protestants "Christians" (as if Catholics weren't Christians). In my opinion, "Christians" would include both Protestants (diverse denominations) and Catholics. Of course you are right; he/they shouldn't be so judgemental. (Though I don't know for sure what exactly Jimmy Swaggart said.) The general idea is a belief that "All those that don't believe like me are infidels." Which of course is exactly the attitude you should have if what you want is to pick a fight.
