However adding a quarter teaspoon of sea salt to a litre of drinking water will aid water retention and increase thirst levels. Everything in moderation.

It also will dehydrate all of your cells because the cells will give water to the salt to go throught the system. All the cells will shrivel and you'll get very sick and might die.
Plainly speaking, drinking saltwater consistently would cause lethal dehydration. By drinking salt water, you actually use more water than you gain just to enable the body to dissolve the added salt intake. As the salt passed through your body, it would cause the cells it came into contact with to shrink as they are drained of water content, and eventually your internal organs - particularly your kidneys - would begin to shut down.
