They all started with different teachers or founders. Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed, Martin Luther, and John Smith (just to name a few) all had different ideas of who God is and what (s)he wants from us.

The fact that different religions have different teachings tells us that they cannot all be true. This fact has caused a lot of trouble through history, and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.
