Young people are more exposed to the current culture than parents, because the responsibilities of a family will usually lock working parents into a fixed schedule and a limited number of locations. Through schools and other activities, teenagers are exposed to a greater range of daily experiences.
It should be noted that while most teenagers do feel that they are more knowledgeable (with popular culture and events), they do NOT have the wisdom gained through experience, and can often overestimate their capabilities.
