In ww2 Truman droped the atomic bomb because the Japanese would not surrender.Even though they were running out of troops and supplies they were determined to fight to the dealth because of a thing called the Bushido practice used in

Japan at the time. It meant that all Japanese soldiers were supposed to fight until they died. They were never to surrender because they thought if you did that it dishonored your family, and it was a privilage to go and die for the Emporer. So, with that stuck in their minds it took 2 atomic bombs one on Hiroshima killing 140,000 and the other on Nagasaki killing 80,000.But if Truman wouldn't of done it hundreds of thousands of Americans would of died, Truman had a meeting with his cabinet and said they would try the bomb because ir it worked it would help save lives the only otheroption would be to send a million men to try and take over the island of Japan and it would result in the heaviest casualties of the war.So, Truman did it to try and save the lives of his own people both military and civilian from the ruthless Japanese. There is also the belief it was a show of force towards the soviet union.
