After World War II the United States was the only country that didnt have all their factories obliterated. The world relied on them for products and they also had the cash to lend for other countries to rebuild. They have the biggest military as they continually build their military and have the biggest budget for their armed forces. Much of the world relies on them to keep the peace so many nations intentionally do not build their military forces up.

Spending on the military of a nation is necessary. Only economic development does not help a nation. No country can become a super power without an ultra-modern and a powerful military. --Swaroop Atnoorkar, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

A "superpower" is a nation with dominant military and economic strength. Both the US and the USSR were superpowers in the 20th century, until the breakup of the Soviet Union left Russia alone and with considerably less international influence.
England became powerful as a nation-state through a combination of military conquests, strategic alliances, and economic expansion. The consolidation of power under the Tudor dynasty, particularly during the reign of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, established a strong centralized monarchy. The establishment of overseas colonies and trade routes during the Age of Exploration further enhanced England's wealth and influence. Additionally, the development of a robust navy allowed England to protect its interests and assert its dominance on the global stage.
Offcourse,India is the third most powerful nation by military and fourth in naval power.
A nation cannot protect it's economic strength without a equally strong military. Nations of the free world during the cold war that had strong economic strength but weak or no militaries were successful...only because the US military protected them.
