I think you want the drain tube for the ac. it should be sticking out of the firewall on the passenger side, if it becomes plugged you can clean it out with a coat hanger or other piece of wire.

i have a 99 Cherokee sport, had the same problem, found it to be a sensor that lets the tranny know how fast the motors spinning vise versa. replace didnt have a problem since. also u might find that the car will want to shutdown while driving i have always had it start right back up. anyways that's what i experienced an hopefully it was helpful
