You lose so much hair when the scalp is dry because the cells in your hair needs to be hydrated too. The lost hair is a result of the dead cells on your scalp.

Can damage to the scalp result in hair loss?

Yes. The scalp is the base of your hair. You have a dry scalp your hair won't be very healthy. Let's say this, if you have a plant and the dirt is dry. The plant won't be able to get what it needs... water. If the plant is over watered the plant will still be sick. That's like some of us who have oily hair. The dirt is to the plant like our scalps are to our hair. Bad scalp equals bad hair.

When using your nails on your scalp help to scrub it clean true or false?

My cousin is a hair stylist, and she use to do my hair everyday with the best shampoo in the world. But when you use your nails on your scalp, it WILL clean it better than your normal finger tips. On your scalp you have dry leftovers on the scalp that can actually damage your hair roots and make it about 97.9% dryer than normal. Your nails can help scratch all of the dry and brittle scalp pieces off. But is you are worried that taking off all the dry stuff is damaging your scalp, it won't. It is like your skin. If you get a very small paper cut or a bite, it will go away and and turn into your normal skin like it never happened. But while scratching your scalp DRY it will damage your hair. As when you wash your hair, it is moist and easy to handle. When your scalp is dry it can ruin your scalp and give you lice. But when you wash your hair and scratch all of that gross dry scalp pieces off, the water washes it all out still leaving it all moist so it wont damage or give you lice. Also, while washing all the soap and bubbles out of your hair, you should also use your nails on your scalp to make sure you got all of that extra dry and gross scalp out of your hair. But to make sure you really got it down, wash your hair twice! However, using a hairbrush vigorously will produce the same result, albeit without washing away the dry skin. But it will wash out next time you wash your hair.
