1) Americans have for some reason connected dragons to the Christian devil. This probably stems from a semantic fallacy, on assumption that dragons, both Western and Eastern styles, and "serpents", which has been known to represent the devil/Satan in Christian lore, are one and the same. In reality they could not be more different in both inspiration and in purpose.

2) Americans fear other cultures. It's as simple as that. We know little to nothing about anyone else's culture, other than what very base elements that have been whitewashed in their translation into "American". European draconic folklore is a complete mystery to us; we will never even begin to comprehend why Chinese dress up as long snaking dragons and parade during festivals. We simply have no interest in learning. And since we are ignorant of it, we fear it. It's a dreadful cycle.

How do you train your dragon Why are dragons afraid of eels?

Dragons are afraid of eels because the eels give them a sickness just like those flowers that are poisonous to dragons. In defenders of berk toothless eats an eel and he cant see starts shooting red plasma randomly and doesn't even know hiccup. So in my theory dragons get sick when they eat eels that is why they are afraid if them.
