Edgar Allan Poe's writings are often dark due to his exploration of themes such as death, madness, and the macabre. Poe himself had a tumultuous life marked by tragedies, which likely influenced the tone of his works. Additionally, his style was influenced by Gothic literature and Romanticism, both of which often delve into darker aspects of human experience.
