In Hinduism the ultimate aim of a person is to reach god (athma sakshatkara).
they believe that each person have their own way to reach god. The different type of god and goddess will help all people in a society to reach and feel the god.
The Hindus believe that there is somewhat a "God Race" (or at least a population of powerful beings in the spiritual realm) that take effect in the running of nature. So therefore there goddesses (or divinely powerful, female spirits) as well as gods.
THE GODDESS:The Rig Veda is mostly about gods only. The concept of goddesses evolved in the Puranic period.
Hindus worship the forces within them as gods. This makes them to conclude that the supreme god and 'I' are one and the same.
THE SEVEN BASIC HINDU GODS:
There are seven basic forces. They are,
1. Dreaming force - Indra
2. Illusory force - Shakti
3. Creative force - Brahma
4. Stabilizing force - Vishnu
5. Determination force - Shiva
6. Status increasing force - Shani
7. Compulsive force - Yama
Each of these is made of two forces.
1. Kinetic/ Moving force - god
2. Inertial / stopping force - goddess
Before the god makes a move, his consort goddess creates a 'System restore' point. In case of failure the goddess enables us to return to the starting point. If the success is partial, the goddess enables us to return to the point at which failure started.
Thus, the worship of goddesses is fundamental to Hinduism because failures in life is inevitable and some times we may have to move backwards in order to move forwards.
