I do not agree with the above answer - I believe it's due to the large amount of people with LAST names beginning with "Mc" or "Mac" . Those names could also be Scottish. If the name begins with " O' " it is Irish only.

∙ 9y agoMichael is a common name in Ireland. It is often shortened to Mick, and so you get Micks. Irish are also often called Paddies, because Patrick is a common name in Ireland. So it is just using a name that is very common in Ireland and using it as a general reference to all of the people.
