Actually it depends on what you mean by "Italians". Sicilians are known to be particularly short on average, having an average height of only 168 cms. That's not bad anyway. While when it comes to other regions of Italy... average height ranges from 173 to 178 cms (the latter is true especially in the north-east of the country). Meaning, the national average height is actually 175 cms ( 5' 9") which is not short compared to the world average, nor compared to the USA average, which is a few cms above. I'm from Italy, naples and I'm 175 cms tall. Still, there are tons of people around that seem to be taller than me :), so yeah don't give up to stereotypes, Italians aren't short.
