Best Answer

A lot of missionaries for the church are being called to South America. It has a huge population which they believe are strong in faith, simply waiting for teachings to be brought to them. A lot of them cannot afford to leave the continent to come find what they may be looking for, so the church is sending members there.

Why do Mormons seem to have a foothold in Latin America?

Most Christian denominations have quite a foothold in Latin America because Latin American peoples tend to be more devoutly religious. An additional reason the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly called the "Mormons") might have a foothold among the poorer populations in Latin America is because the Church provides education funding, employment training, and welfare assistance to it's members.
