The Navy SEALs go through very rigorous training, and everybody knows it. However, they ARE limited (which people don't know) as they are trained in small unit tactics, etc. Example, you would not send the SEALs to take out an army. Individual people, yes, but not large forces. The aren't Superman! I think it is because they have a lot of publicity and since Bin Laden and True Valor and Call of Duty, etc., Special Forces and the SEALs get so much attention so people think they can do everything.
Before, then U.S. Navy Seals, were who they are, they were classified UDT - or - Underwater Demolition Team. I don't know when they officially became Seals. JFK authorized the formation of the SEALS.
